Challenge One- almost done!

So I have about 17 days left of my 1st Body by Vi 90 Day Challenge. My plan is to really step it up these last days with exercise and hit the 20lbs down mark by day 90! I took a couple of pics today just to visually see my progress- and they are posted below! I can't wait to post my final stats!

Fast Food Wake-up Call

When I was pregnant, I ate out a lot! I didn't just eat typical fast food- I would pick up to go orders at normal restaurants as well. I didn't over eat- in fact my husband mentioned that I ate less while pregnant.
Boy were we wrong!!!! Two nights ago we started looking up nutritional information from many of our usual places. All I can say is WOW!
I was seriously over eating as far as calories were concerned! A favorite of our's when we were visiting in SC would be Zaxby's. We would make a point to eat it 2-3 times each visit because we don't have one near us in MD. My normal meal would be the Chicken Finger Plate, no slaw, extra fries, extra Zax Sauce. Can you guess how many calories that 1 meal is?
600?800?1000?!?
Try 1600+!!! (I'm including a screen shot at the bottom of this blog post)
My Husby and I almost had a heart attack when we read that! One small Zax Sauce alone has 180 calories in it!!! I would use 2! That one meal alone has more calories in it than I aim for in an entire day!
There is one other place I wanna mention. Checkers. For many months during my pregnancy and right after as well, Checkers offered 20 wings for 9.99. We would typically buy 2 (that's right 40 wings). Usually because we both wanted a different flavor (garlic parmesan for me and BBQ for him). I guess I always assumed and rationalized that since we were only eating wings it wasn't that bad. I mean it's just chicken, right? Wrong! The BBQ wings (20 pc) have 1560 calories!!!! You think that's bad? Those garlic parmesan wings I loved inhaling? One thousand nine hundred and twenty calories! 1-9-2-0! Combine the 2 together and that is 3500 calories!!
We looked up plenty of other restaurants but those were 2 I had to share. I encourage everyone to look up their favorite meals and read up on the nutritional information. I will think twice about fast food! I found 1 decent go to fast food meal. The Chickfila Chargrilled Chicken Garden Salad. Even with the Fat Free Honey Mustard Dressing, croutons, and sunflower seeds it is only 390 calories! (did you know the sinfully delicious Polynesian Sauce has 110 calories PER PACK!!!)
Another helpful tool, I'd like to encourage you to use is the My Fitness Pal app! It's an easy was to keep up with your calories throughout the day and it has thousands of fast food and restaurant meals listed. I use it now to help me see that the choices I make when going out to eat can be healthy- if I know what to order!
Until next post!

Onederland

I long to be in Onederland (and I hate admitting to the whole world that I am not in Onederland).
Truth is, I haven't been in Onederland in years- probably before Bella was conceived. (early 2007). I got real close in 2009 when I did Jenny Craig. My smallest was 207.
I'm currently battling the bulge and slowly ticking away at the pounds. Before I went on vacation I had lost 14lbs. Sadly I only stuck to my diet less than 1/2 the time at the beach so I gained about 3lbs. But I am back at it and have already lost 1 of those lbs!
I had a glamorous goal of losing 45lbs on my first 90 day challenge and now with only about 25 days left- I will settle for 20lbs!
I plan on doing a second 90 day challenge and make that goal 25lbs! I hope to be in Onederland by Christmas! And then by my 30th birthday in May, I hope to get to 175.
I start a new job Friday and for 8 weeks or so, I'll be full time and I have to really be diligent so I don't snack and lose track. I hope that the stability of a real schedule will help me focus rather than be sidetracked. It will be difficult to get in any heavy exercise during this time- since by the time I get home I will have to make dinner, bathe the girls, put them to bed and try to get ready for the next day! (Any tips on how to accomplish all this and fit in some fitness???)
And finally, thank you to all my readers! I know I haven't posted as regularly as I used to but when I do, your feedback keeps me going!

Packing and a food journal

I hate packing clothes for trips! Well, actually I don't. I like putting together outfits for myself and my girls. What I hate is how much room my clothes take up. An average or small sized person can pack up a weeks worth of clothes in the same suitcase that I use for a weekend trip.
I look forward to the day that my clothes take up less space!

On a side note, I haven't really lost any additional weight in about 2 weeks. I started getting depressed but instead of quitting like I normally do, I reached out to some support! My sis in law and cousin in law both suggested I keep a food journal to make sure I am staying at a good number.
I am going to do this because I am probably snacking too much or maybe my dinner portions aren't what they need to be. Either way I am not giving up!

Any obstacles in your way? How are you overcoming them?

Can I be honest?

I have maybe 2 or 3 hours throughout the day where Savannah sleeps soundly and I can get things done. I try to do a bit of housework during that time and spend quality time with my oldest, Bella. And then if I do get that 3rd hour it is really hard to make myself get out of bed or off the couch and do some exercise! I am exhausted taking care of a 3 month old. (but I wouldn't change it for anything!) it's a mind game I know, but my lazy side keeps winning! Help!

How are you fighting the lazies?

One Month Down

So I have completed my first month of my 90 day Body by Vi Challenge. I am down 12lbs and 7inches. I did not lose as much as I had hoped but I am happy for any loss that stays off!

I have gained more energy than before and I feel good! I am able to fit into more and more prepregnancy clothes and I am excited for the days ahead when those no longer fit!

For Month 2 I am working on incorporating a consistent exercise routine into my days. I hope to lose another 10-15 this month by doing so.

Something I am very excited about is the fact that after 30 days I am still enjoying my shakes! I have yet to grow tired of a same old same old routine like I normally do with diets. I think it's because even though I am constantly having 2 shakes everyday- they are never the same! Mmmm!

How are you doing with your weight loss endeavors? (if you are on the journey to a healthier you that is)

It Does a Body Good!

So I have been on the 90 Day Challenge for 2 1/2 weeks now. Not only have I lost weight (11lbs at the 2 week weigh-in) but at least 4 inches are gone too! 3 from my waist and 1 from my hips!

Something else I've noticed besides the weight loss is how good I feel in general! I have more energy than I did 3 weeks ago, which is wonderful since I am now a stay at home mom with a rambunctious 4 year old and a 3 month old that requires a lot of attention!

The vitamins in the Body by Vi Shakes play a huge role in this! Plus I add 8-10 oz of skim milk per shake which is giving me all this calcium I used to never get. (before doing the shakes I would barely have a sip of milk in a week's time).

I still have a ways to go but I am enjoying the small perks as they come! My face is slimming down and eventually my body will be there! Another thing I've noticed is my hair! It is fuller and shinier than its been in a long time. Usually after having a baby, a woman's hair goes thru hell- falls out, thins out, texture changes all due to the change in hormones but I feel like all the vitamins and nutrients in my shakes are helping to counteract that!

I included 2 pics with this post: one of my face and hair after I had my baby and after I started the shakes... Plus a pic with the nutritional info.

Why Body by Vi?

Throughout this 1st week on Body by Vi, I have been asked why I decided to do this, so here are 10 reasons...

1) I need to lose weight (duh) and my past efforts have been a mix of successes and failures- this has proven to be a great jump start for me.
2) many of my inlaws are partaking in the 90 Day Challenge so I have plenty of accountability
3) my husband is on board too- and we haven't been on the same page since we both did Jenny Craig (coincidently the one time we were both really successful)
4) it's affordable- less than $2/shake so it works out to be cheaper than our normal grocery bill. And practically cuts our grocery bill in half, if not less!
5) it's delicious! No really- its not chalky or gritty and you don't have to choke it down! And the flavor combinations are endless!
6) it is packed with nutrients
7) I actually feel full when I drink it and I do not long to eat or bite into food because I can still enjoy dinner!
8) I look forward to every shake!
9) the "3 for free" referral program- when you join, and your friends/family/coworkers see your success- they will want to know how they too can lose weight- and if you have 3 friends sign up under your name, your shakes for the following month are free!
10) by being a distributor I can supplement my income and stay home with our girls

Misshapen

So I had my postpartum doctor appt today- and all is well! Doctor says I can begin physical activity now.
I also found out that with the exception of 1lb I have lost all my baby weight!! I am pretty excited about this, because with Bella I didn't lose all of it and still carry it around! However, before I became pregnant I still had weight to lose. And because of my csection I feel like my body is shaped differently - and I still look about 5 months pregnant.
I still want to attain my goal of 30lbs lost by our July beach trip- which would put me at the lowest I've been since 2009.
My long term goal is to be my ideal weight and size by my 30th birthday in May 2013.
I know it will be hard work, especially being a mother of 2 but many other moms have done it! So why can't I?

15 weeks till the beach

So posting often is going to be a challenge with this new baby! But I'm going to try!
I created a mini goal- I have 15 weeks until I go to the beach with my family. I would love to lose 30lbs by then...
That's 2lbs a week, which seems doable! However I haven't been cleared to workout yet so right now I have to concentrate on my eating...
This in itself has been tricky- I find myself snacking more than eating meals :-(
I just need to focus! Until next time!

S.M.A.R.T. Goal

So I'm watching Dr. Oz and he has personal trainer Chris Powell on talking about weight loss. He said we should all make a SMART goal-
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic
Time sensitive

I like this idea and I am going to come up with my own SMART goal (to be posted soon). He also mentions to try an alternating high carb low carb plan (every other day) with a "cheat day" on the 7th day--- sounds interesting. He claims this will help boost your metabolism and then burn fat.

I definitely will take all this into consideration while I decide my best course of action! Until next post!

I'm baaaaack!

It's been, oh about 9 months since my last entry... And a lot has changed! I had a baby! Shortly after my last blog back in June 2011, I found out I was pregnant :-)

My focus shifted from weight loss to having a healthy pregnancy. Well I am now 12 days post partum and ready to get back at it!

In the next few days I plan on having a plan set up and in motion. Any and all suggestions and success stories (or failures) welcome!!!
